April Carver Connection

Minority Family Summit Attempts to close the racial divide:  On Saturday, March 24th, form 10am -2pm, the GW Craver community Center hosted the 2018 Minority Family Summit.  The event was sponsored by Vitas Health Care, George Washington Carver Foundation, and the Flagler County Department of Juvenile Justice Council.  This wonderful event provided workshops to assist community leadership and local families in dealing with many community issues related to juveniles and law enforcement. Workshops include: What is RED & DMC, Gainesville’s Police Department approach to Community Policing, Explanation of Bias and Implicit Bias, and The Role of the School Resource Deputies.  State and local authorities will be presenting material designed to help all participants navigate this very complex issue. The event concluded with a Pizza Parle’ lunch and open conversation concerning related local issues. Although attendance was low, everyone participating learned a great deal about Race Relations, and ways for everyone to build better relationships. Congratulations to Ms. Bonita Robinson, who went home with $200 in Gift Cards!
