December Carver Connection

Road To Success Program:  RTS has helped 128 young adults earn their GEDs to date with 14 earning honors.  This month we enrolled four new students, four students are on track to start college in January, four earned their GEDs, and three obtained employment.  Workshops this month included presenters from SAYS Youth Services, Coaching the Global Village conducting a series of mock interviews which included local businesses, students earned their First Aid & CPR certifications as well as, earning $50 each.  RTS students, staff and friends enjoyed a Thanksgiving Luncheon at Golden Coral in Palm Coast paid by RTS.  If you have any questions about the Road to Success Youth Program contact, Brian Willard, Program manager at 386-437-8279.

GW Carver Foundation: The Foundation met and is off and running and planning their 2017-2018 Fundraisers. Once again the group will sponsor their Motown Madness Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 24th. Please mark your calendars NOW, and plan to attend. The group will also sponsor their annual On-Line Auction from April 11, 2018 – April 26th. If anyone has any items they would like to donate to the auction, please contact Cheryl Massaro or Brandon Seminara in the Flagler County Youth Center.


Andrea Johnson- McLoud New Full Time Assistant Director: The face may be the same, as the long term Activity Specialist at Carver, Andrea Johnson-McLeod, was recently hired into a new role as the Center’s Assistant Director. As the Assistant Director, Ms. McLoud will increase her hours as well as her responsibilities around the Community Center, working closely with Rev. Emanuel, the Center’s Director.  If you see Ms. McLoud, please welcome her and wish her well in her new position!  


2018 Baby/Child Fair: A group of youth representing the FPC Problem Solvers, are putting together a Baby Fair, for Saturday, February 3, 2018, an event that is scheduled to meet the needs of babies, are youngest community members, and their families. Mark your calendars today, and plan to take advantage of this wonderful NEW event.


Pizza Parle’: Wednesday December 20th at 6:00pm: Reverend Eli Emanuel & Pastor Daisy Henry will host another 2017-2018 Pizza Parle, for youth, law enforcement, and area stakeholders, on Wednesday, 12/20 at 6:00pm.  The purpose of this event is to have area youth introduced to local law enforcement, and discuss community issues. The overall goal is to lower juvenile arrests, by opening up a dialogue with all participants. It is also a great event to grab a piece of pizza. To sign-up you must see Rev. Emanuel, in the Carver Center, for space is limited.  


GW Carver Community Center’s Expansion: Thanks to Flagler County Commission and the GW Carver Foundation, an addition is being planned for the front of the current building. The new addition will include additional office space, meeting rooms and ADA bathrooms. We are anticipating construction to begin sometime in 2018.

Focus on Family Summit:  Sponsored by the Focus on Flagler Youth Coalition is set for Saturday, February 24th, in the G. W. Carver Community Center. This wonderful event provides workshops to assist local families in many issues. A complete listing of workshops is not yet available but will be provided in January.
