Director’s Message: At this time last month I was sitting down to write my first (of I hope many) director’s message.  I had the opportunity to do that thing that makes every student feel awkward on the first day of class, which was to tell you about me.  Today, as I sit down, I want to take time to let you know about some pretty awesome people who I have had the opportunity to get to know in my first month of my new position.  Over the last month I have been able to observe one of the things that has made the Carver Center such a wonderful place for community, and that is the people who run the programs at the Carver Community Center.  I want to thank Pastor Eli Emanuel, Andrea McCleod, Brian Willard, Tahira Lee, Ms. Junior, and Ms. Askew for all their hard work and long hours they put in at the Carver Center to truly make it a place where kids want to go and where they can succeed.  I also want to thank the Carver Foundation for everything they do and all the hard work they put in to make sure the doors stay open and the kids have programs to participate in. And with that, I want to leave you with a thought, Jackie Robinson once said, “a life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives”.  I want to thank Pastor Emanuel, Mr. Willard, Ms. McLeod, Ms. Lee, Ms. Askew, Mrs. Junior and the Carver Foundation for everything they do because I know lives have been changed because of them.

March Motown Madness: Mark your calendars NOW, for Saturday March 23rd at 6:00pm. Road to Success Program:  RTS has helped 190 young adults earn their GEDs to-date with 26 of those earning honors.   RTS is a FREE year-round program and currently enrolling now for February and March.  RTS enrolls up to 45 students per year, we focus on GED prep, life skills and pre-employment training. Over the last several months RTS has had 96.5% of students graduating with their GEDs and a job or post-secondary education. In January we started a new internship program with Flagler Humane Society were students will work at their thrift store and working at the adoption center. Students also had in-house educational and training workshops by Lauren Roeck from Wells Fargo, Sayskids Bryan Perry, Military recruiters, Food Handlers Certification, resume writing assistance and a field trip to the Daytona International Speedway for an All Access Tour.

If you have any questions about our Youth Program please contact Taahira Lee, Case manager 437-7526 ext. 1189 or Brian Willard, Program Manager @ 386-437-8279.

PIZZA PARLE: Pizza Parle’:   Last month I had the pleasure of watching Pastor Emanuel host Pizza Parle’.  This is an event he does monthly that has a huge positive impact on the kids at Carver Community Center. The next Pizza Parle will be on Wednesday, February 20th at 6:00pm.

Free Food Ministry: On the second and fourth Tuesday, of every month a simplified food pantry will be distributing food from the backroom of the GW Carver Center, between the hours of 3:30pm -5:30pm.  Thanks to the efforts of Mr. & Mrs. Ellison, this pantry is up and running.

L.E.A.D will host a resource fair on Saturday February 2nd from 10 am - 2 pm.
