February Carver Connection

Director’s Message:  This month is going to be an action packed month for students in Flagler County!  Here at the Carver Center, we are still hosting the Flagler Basketball League. We hosted the L.E.A.D Child Fair this past weekend.  On Monday February 10th, Pastor Eli will be taking a group of students to the Bethune Cookman Men’s Basketball game. Along with the Flagler Youth Coalition we will be hosting  Friday Night Done Right on Friday, February 14th. And every Friday is PBS Friday. Students can bring their good grades to the center and get a reward for doing well in their classes!

Friday Nights Done Right: The Flagler Sheriff’s PAL and the Focus on Flagler Youth Coalition have teamed up to bring Friday Nights Done Right to the Carver Community Center! This month will be the last of the  Friday Nights Done Right here at Carver Center as the next series of events will move to the Palm Coast Community Center. This event is free for all Flagler Students ages 11-15 and this month we will be hosting a dance to celebrate Valentine’s day.

Road to Success Program:   We have reached 225 GEDs earned to date with a 97% success rate. Currently we have student internships at the Flagler Youth Center and East Coast Gym and our students earned Food handlers ServSafe credentials. This past month we hosted workshops for Army recruiters, Flagler Technical Institute, resume writing, and we hosted a field trip to Career Source Flagler Volusia.   This past month we also celebrated birthdays for two of our staff, Taahira Lee and Jonathan Gore. Coming up in February we are doing First Aid, UF 4H is conducting a nutrition class, and another certification for ServSafe/Food Handlers class.
