G.W Carver Center Hours of Operation:  Road to Success,  Monday - Friday  9:00am -2:00pm, Carver Youth Center,  Monday- Friday: 2:00pm-7:00pm. Open Gym, 4:00pm - 6:00pm. For compete hours please refer to the calendar.

Road To Success Program:  RTS has helped 176 young adults earn their GEDs to date with 22 of those earning honors.   RTS is a year-round program and we are enrolling now for November and December.  RTS enrolls 45 students per year, we focus on GED prep, life skills and pre-employment training. Over the last several months RTS has had 94% of students graduating with their GEDs and a job or post-secondary education. Our events this month included:Travis Thomas presented an overview of FTI’s programs, students have had an opportunity to take graduation pictures with our professional photographer, students and staff went to Marineland for a behind the scenes tour, Wells Fargo conducted a financial literacy class, DJJ presented the “Know the Law” workshop.  Students also worked their resumes and we had two new paid interns start at the Habitat for Humanity’s thrift shop. In November we look forward to a field trip to Daytona State College with students for a tour. Flagler County Basketball League Returns to Carver: Yes, it is that time of year again, when local gyms are extremely busy meeting the needs of community basketball programs. Carver gym is no exception to this rule.Starting on Tuesday, October 9th, the Flagler County Basketball league will begin practice , on the Carver Gym floor, from 6:00 pm -9:00 pm, on Tuesdays & Thursdays, and 6:00pm -8:00pm on Wednesdays. The groups will also begin using the gym on Saturday, 10/27, from 11 am -8:00 pm for games. If you wish to use the gym, you must be certain to check the attached calendar for “Open Gym “ times, for it had been limited.


PIZZA PARLE: Pizza Parle’:  The Carver Center held their monthly “Pizza Parle” on Wednesday, October 17th. The focus  of this meeting was on: Know The Law”, presented by Ms. Debbie Neumann from Focus on Flagler County Youth Coalition.  FCSO Commander Dave Williams, an additional FCSO officer and  a member of the Bunnell Police Department , as well as Pastor Henry, Youth Center Director: Cheryl Massaro , and Carver Facility Manager: Rev. Emanuel and Assistant: Andrea Mcloud met with 15 youth to discuss current laws affecting today’s youth. At the end of the discussion, Ms. Terry Williams, from the Flagler County Tobacco Partnership spoke to everyone about the harmful effects of Juuling and Vaping. After the presentations, everyone enjoyed pizza and treats. All in all it was an excellent event, with great participation! Area youth are invited to participate in these monthly events to meet with area Law Enforcement, Faith Representatives, Professionals and Community members for great conversation, and building relationships.  The November meeting is set for Wednesday, 11/28 at 6:00 pm, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  Additional Pizza Parle’s will be held on:  12/19, 1/16, 2/20, 3/20, 4/17, and 5/15.


Free Food Ministry: On the second and fourth Tuesday, of every month a simplified food pantry will be distributing food from the backroom of the GW Carver Center, between the hours of 3:30pm -5:30pm. Thanks to the efforts of Mr. & Mrs. Ellison, this pantry is up and running. This month the pantry will be open on Tuesday 11/13 & 11/27.


Boys & Girls Club presents 2nd Annual Samaritan’s Feet Community Shoe Distribution in Carver: On Sunday, October 21st, from 5pm -7pm, 85 flagler youth received a new pair of shoes. The event was a HUGE success!  Special thanks to B&G Club Director Stephanie Ecklin-Hope for making this event happen. As well as Good Samaritan’s Feet, and the National Collegiate Club Golf Association for all their help and support!
