October Carver Connection

Director’s Message:  September saw lots of exciting stuff happen at the Carver Community Center this month.  We hosted our monthly Friday Night Done Right event which keeps growing every month and we hosted the Buddy Taylor Middle School block party this month which welcomed over 300 people to the center!  We are looking forward to hosting FNDR again this upcoming month on Friday October 11. And Flagler Basketball will get underway this month as well! If you have not come to check us out on PBS Fridays, bring your progress report in and get a reward for having good grades!

Friday Nights Done Right: The Flagler Sheriff’s PAL and the Focus on Flagler Youth Coalition have teamed up to bring Friday Nights Done Right to the Carver Community Center!  Friday Nights Done Right is a free event for Flagler Youth on the second Friday of every month. This event is designed to give our youth something fun and positive to do on a Friday night. Stop in for games, free pizza, snacks and sodas on Friday October 11,  from 7-9 pm!

Road to Success Program:  The RTS program has reached our 216th  GED to-date, with a 97.5% success rate.  This month we have student interns working at The Flagler Youth Center, Flagler Humane Society, FTI’s Extended Care, Flagler Habitat for Humanity, and Possibly one starting Tom Gibbs Chevy!  Recently students completed workshops for Resume writing and Wells Fargo conducted financial and banking workshops.  DSC reps came in and spoke to our kids about college opportunities and Sayskids conducted a workshop on life skills.  Graduation pics were also done this month, 4H conducted nutrition classes and our students participated in field trips to career source in Flagler and Daytona State College.

Last month we helped 4 students obtain state IDs, paid for 2 drug and alcohol tests, and paid for 1 driver’s license test (and on the same day that student also passed his last test and earned his GED).  Since July 2019, we have enrolled 12 new students.

If you have any questions or would like more information about the Road to Success Youth Program, contact Brian Willard, Program Manager at 386.437.8279.

WEDNESDAY PARLE:   The kids spoke and we listened.  Pizza Parle’ is giving way to Wednesday parle’.  We will still have the same discussions but we are expanding the menu to foods other than pizza..  Come in for FREE WINGS this month and enjoy conversations with Pastor Eli on October 16 at 6:00.
