G.W Carver Center Hours of Operation:  Road to Success,  Monday - Friday  9:00am -2:00pm, Carver Youth Center,  Monday- Friday: 2:00pm-7:00pm. Open Gym, 4:00pm - 6:00pm. For compete hours please refer to the calendar.

 

GW Carver’s New Sign-In Procedure: Recent increase of security has resulted in the need for EVERYONE utilizing the GW Carver Community Center to Log In, when they enter. A computer is located at the buildings main entrance and each individual, youth & adults, must complete the Sign-In Form, before entering the facility. Once you are signed in, there is no need to sign out, for your admission is good for the entire day.

 

Road To Success Program: RTS has helped 167 young adults earn their GEDs to date with 20 of those earning honors. RTS is a year-round program and we are enrolling now for September and October.  RTS enrolls 45 students per year, we currently have 37 seats left and have a waiting list for September. Over the last several months RTS has had 100% of students graduating with their GEDs and a job or post-secondary education. Last year RTS had seven students enter and complete a “paid work experience” while earning over a total of $10,000.Our events this month included: A field trip to the Museum of Arts and Science in Daytona, Graduation pictures completed, Food handler’s certification, Mock interviewing sessions and Wells Fargo banking overview of financials. Flagler County Basketball League Returns to Carver: Yes, it is that time of year again, when local gyms are extremely busy meeting the needs of community basketball programs. Carver gym is no exception to this rule.Starting on Tuesday, October 9th, the Flagler County Basketball league will begin practice , on the Carver Gym floor, from 6:00 pm -9:00 pm, on Tuesdays & Thursdays, and 6:00pm -8:00pm on Wednesdays. The groups will also begin using the gym on Saturday, 10/27, from 11 am -8:00 pm for games. If you wish to use the gym, you must be certain to check the attached calendar for “Open Gym “ times, for it had been limited.

 

Welcome Back Ice Cream Celebration: What better way to start a new school year off than with FREE ICE CREAM! Everyone on site at the Carver Center on: Wednesday, September 12th, at 4:00pm, received a free popsicle. A variety of choices were available and those attending enjoyed this “COOL” treat on a very hot afternoon!

 

PIZZA PARLE: Pizza Parle’:  The Carver Center kicked off their first monthly “Pizza Parle” on Wednesday, September 19th. Flagler County Commissioner Charlie Ericksen, FCSO Commander Dave Williams, and a member of the Bunnell Police Department met with 15 youth and Reverend Eli Emanuel to discuss local issue dealing with area youth, while they shared pizza and treats. Area youth are invited to participate in these monthly events to meet with area Law Enforcement, Faith Representatives, Professionals and Community members for great conversation, and building relationships.  The October meeting is set for Wednesday, 10/17 at 6:00 pm, and will focus on Know The Law”, presented by the Focus on Flagler County Youth Coalition. Parents are also invited to attend this informative workshop reviewing all laws affecting today’s youth, and pick up their copy of the “Know The Law” booklet. Additional Pizza Parle’s will be held on: 11/28, 12/19, 1/16, 2/20, 3/20, 4/17, and 5/15. Anyone interested in attending should check with Reverend Emanuel.
