G.W. Carver Center Operations

Currently the G.W. Carver Center is open daily Monday – Friday with special events on Saturday. The Carver Center hosts the Road to Success Program Monday -Friday from 8:00am – 1:00pm and Open Gym from 2:00pm – 6:00pm.

Program Update

Community Assistant Program: On Wednesdays, the G.W. Carver Center provides a community assistant program. Every other Wednesday, Flagler Cares offers services including Screening & Referral, Care Coordination, Benefit Assistance & Navigation, SOAR, Housing Assistance, ID Assist, Behavioral Health Programs, and Health Marketplace Navigation. Through our Community Assistant Program, we strive to be a valuable resource for the community. Community Assistance will be available every Wednesday, with Flagler Cares visiting every other Wednesday.

Senior Social Hour: We continue to offer Senior Social Hour! Additionally, starting at 1pm on Tuesdays, we will be introducing Senior Empowerment, which aims to enhance cardiovascular health and manage joint health and arthritis. If you are a senior or know a senior, we encourage you to join us for our senior social hour. During the month of March we will be hosting Senior Social Hour on March 12, March 14 March 26, and March 28 from 11am-1pm.

Student Advisory Council: On February 7, 2024, we held a meeting at the G.W. Carver Center for the Student Advisory Council, where we discussed career goals and community service hours. On February 21, 2024, we held a meeting at the Flagler County Youth Center where students were provided with lunch. We engaged in open conversations about upcoming events, checked grades, and had further discussions on future plans and goals for the remainder of the school year.

Road to Success Update

The Road to Success (RTS) program has reached 357 GEDs to date, with 1 student graduating in February. We have a 98% positive outcome since the beginning of the program. This month PNC Bank continued its 3-part series on financial literacy for the students, graduation pictures were taken, a CPR/1st Aid course was given to graduates, current students, and staff, and we began a cybersecurity curriculum for our students. Additionally, our Ice House student success course, funded by CareerSource Flagler/Volusia, continued. RTS has three interns working currently: one at the Belle Terre Swim & Racquet Club, and two at the Flagler Youth Center.
